Educational Supports for Adults

Terry Guerra at AchieveAbility writes,

“We need help in our tutoring program for adults who are in college or are pursuing their GEDs. We have found that consistent, longer-term (at least one or two semesters) one-on-one tutoring is the single most important factor for helping the parents in our program to succeed in their school work. Unfortunately, there is a dearth of persons who can provide both quality and consistency in their tutoring. I have contacted the Student Employment Office so that we can hire some work-study students. While we still welcome volunteers (and would love it if you can send some our way), I would like your insights as to how we can get graduate or undergraduate students to come to AchieveAbility and provide targeted tutoring assistance to specific adult individuals on a regular and consistent basis. If they need their participation to include something other than direct tutoring, they can start out with some kind of assessment, develop a plan, and do an evaluation at the end of the semester. Normally, all our clients have already had TABE assessments.”

If you would like more information about how to connect students to adult learners at AchieveAbility or to apply to become a tutor, contact Terry at terry.guerra@pcah.org.
