INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Part-time website outreach intern (Summer 2004)

Philadelphia Public School Notebook – an award-winning quarterly newspaper that promotes public involvement in efforts for quality and equity in Philadelphia public schools – is looking for a part-time website outreach intern for the summer of 2004 to introduce our recently launched website to interested community members.

Position description: The Notebook has recently launched its website (http://www.thenotebook.org), and is seeking a website outreach intern to design and conduct workshops with parents, students, and other potential users of the site to train them on using the Web to access information about Philadelphia public schools and to solicit feedback to help us refine the site. Duties may also include researching and posting education-focused Internet resources on the website, identifying and implementing strategies for website promotion, and assisting with general troubleshooting. Small stipend available.

Key qualifications: Applicant should possess strong communications skills and an interest in community-oriented, advocacy journalism. Applicant must have strong computer skills, and especially strong skills using the Internet. Experience with web design is preferred, but not required. While hours are flexible, applicants must have some time availability during normal weekday business hours. Ideally, applicant would be available for at least 10 hours/week for a period of 6 to 10 weeks.

Compensation: Summer work-study students are encouraged to apply. Otherwise, the internship is unpaid. A small stipend to cover transportation costs is available.
