United Communities seeks volunteers

United Communities Southeast Philadelphia is seeking volunteers for its Out of School Time Program and Intensive Prevention Services Program.

UCSEP is in need of volunteer tutors to work with at-risk youth in the IPS program.  This program provides comprehensive, intensive early intervention for youth 13-17 years old exhibiting high risk or at-risk behaviors.  IPS tutors provide assistance to youth, 1-3 evenings a week in Math, Science and English.  The IPS program objectives are to assist at-risk youth in developing both socially and academically through intensive comprehensive programming, and prevent at-risk youth from entering or re-entering the child welfare system.

Site-based, after school programming takes place Monday-Thursday, 3-6pm.  Applicants must have at least a high school education (some college preferred), and be willing to submit to a Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI fingerprint.

UCSEP is also looking for assistant teachers for its OST program at the Southwark Elementary School.  The program is a literacy based program focusing on Project Based Learning (PBL).  Volunteers are needed to assist group leaders with lesson planning, homework and recreational/enrichment activities for children in grades K-5.  The program operates 3-6pm, Monday-Friday.  Interested persons must be at least 18 years or older and be willing to submit to a Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI fingerprint.
