Volunteer Coordinator for Seventy’s Election Oversight Program for the May Primary

The Committee of Seventy is a non-partisan organization conducting a permanent campaign to improve the Philadelphia region by demanding ethical conduct of public officials, promoting government efficiency, educating citizens and safeguarding elections. Seventy is seeking a highly capable and motivated individual to coordinate our 100-year old non-partisan Election Oversight Program that places hundreds of volunteers in Philadelphia neighborhoods to ensure the integrity of elections and to protect voting rights. This is a four-month, part-time project-management position under the supervision of Seventy?s Director of Voting Rights and Election Reform.

This challenging opportunity has three phases:

Prior to the Election: Recruiting, registering and assigning approximately 500 volunteers, and ensuring that the volunteers and Seventy?s office operations are fully prepared for Election Day.

Primary Election Day: Ensuring that all volunteers follow through on their assignments, managing last-minute logistical issues and responding to Election Day problems. This demanding day begins at 5:30 a.m. and runs until 9:00 p.m.

After the Election: Analyzing Election Day reports from voters and volunteers, following up on the outcome of serious problems and preparing detailed Election Day reports.

Requirements:

* Detail-oriented
* Available during business hours and willing to increase time commitment, as needed, close to the primary
* Comfortable coordinating a major citywide operation
* Excellent work ethic
* Capable of juggling many tasks, handling pressure and meeting deadlines
* Able to work as part of a large team
* Strong writing skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
* Prior campaign experience and fluency in Spanish a plus

Hours: 25 hours/week except on Election Day (15-hours minimum) and other times, as needed
Compensation: $12 per hour
