Pennsylvania Campus Compact AmeriCorpsVISTA Position Description

Saint Joseph?s University?s Faith-Justice Institute (FJI) is seeking a full-time AmeriCorpsVISTA member to coordinate programmatic activities in conjunction with Covenant House, a program for homeless youth. The position includes a monthly living allowance, limited health coverage, and either a $4,725 educational award or a $1,200 end-of-service stipend at the successful completion of the term of service. Additionally a $1,000 meal stipend through university meal card is provided.

Responsibilities include:

?Plan and implement ongoing programming for Covenant House (CH) residents
?Supervise undergraduate site assistants (typically 6 students) working at CH
?Maintain all documentation and correspondence relevant to the DEEP/Site Assistant Program
?Participate in select scheduled social programming at CH as well as at on-campus events
?Meet regularly with CH staff and residents to identify program needs and to evaluate the DEEP program
?Identify and acquire University resources for CH programming from participating departments on campus
?Prepare and present a ?summary paper? for submission to the Raskob Foundation
?Facilitate bi-weekly meetings with Site Assistants
?Meet individually with Site Assistants twice each semester
?Meet weekly with Assistant Director for supervision
?Participate in weekly professional staff meetings and monthly office meetings at FJI

Qualifications needed:

?Ability to work with students, staff, faculty, and community partners
?Experience in service-learning or community service
?Strong organizational skills
?Ability to work independently and also as part of a team
?Self motivation, individual initiative, and reliability
?Excellent oral and exceptional written communication skills
?Must be 21 years of age or older and a college graduate
?Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident
?Must be able to start Pre-Service Orientation on August 20-24, 2007
?Must be able to successfully complete a twelve-month term beginning August 25, 2007
