Commerce Dept. issues ASEZ RFPs

The Philadelphia Commerce Dept. has issued Requests for Proposals for a variety of projects in the American Street Empowerment Zone.

Programs include the Commercial Rental Rebate Program, a rental rebate program for new businesses locating in the ASEZ, and a Small Grant Business Startup Fund, which provides grants up to $500 to entrepreneurs or home-based businesses whose owners reside in the ASEZ.  The funds will assist in expenditures necessary to start a business such as City licensing, food handling licensing, or other upfront expenditures related to the regulatory approvals needed to begin operations. The selected organization will be paid up to $15,000 to administer the program.

The department is also offering emergency grants for up to $15,000 to support nonprofit organizations that serve American Street Empowerment Zone residents. These Emergency Agency Assistance Grants are being offered to prevent crises that would limit the ability of organizations to provide much-needed services to the American Street Empowerment Zone community. Finally, the department is offering grants of up to $5,000 for beautification projects located in the American Street Empowerment Zone. These grant funds are being offered to promote and encourage neighborhood beautification which may include but is not limited to pedestrian furniture, signage, trees and planters, and public art.
