School/Center Overview
Division of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) is Penn’s foremost provider of student services and educational access. VPUL partners and collaborates with diverse organizations across many dimensions including: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, historical tradition, age, religion, disabilities, veteran status, interests, perspectives and socioeconomic backgrounds. Duties
The UB Counselor coordinates the counseling program for participants in each grade level (9th-12th)of the Program. The UB Counselor will conduct workshops and provide individual counseling pertaining to students’ educational goals and career aspirations. The Counselor will also meet with parents, target high school personnel and Upward Bound staff to monitor student progress toward completing high school. The UB Counselor will coordinate the initial recruitment and selection process for new students. The UB Counselor will also interact regularly with the higher education community to assist students in gaining admission, matriculating, and graduating from competitive postsecondary institutions. The Counselor will maintain student files and ensure all proper documentation is collected and filed.

Qualifications
A Master’s Degree with a concentration in one of the following areas: Counseling, Education, or Social Work preferred and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working with high school students, ability to motivate students to reach their full potential. Demonstrated commitment to post-secondary access for public school students. Knowledge of the School District of Philadelphia and the Upward Bound philosophy is a plus. Must be highly organized and possess strong oral, written, and presentation skills. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint required. Position contingent upon grant funding.
