Full-time (12 months) Transition Services Coordinator (Student and Alumni Career Services) position at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, an alternative 12th-Grade-only, diploma-granting high school for high-school dropouts ages 18 to 21.

Background
The YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is an education and job-training program for young adults who have dropped out of high school. Students in the program alternate six-week sessions between the classroom site, where they attend academic classes and develop career-related, leadership and life skills, and a vocational-training site (construction, computer technology, or nursing) where they develop real-world work skills. The School, originally chartered in 1997, enrolls approximately 200 students each year. Regular hours for this full-time position are from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., with occasional night, weekend or variations in regular hours to accommodate school events.

Job Description
The Transition Services Coordinator is required to perform the following duties:

* Transition Services Operations:
o Believe deeply in the mission and values of YouthBuild Philadelphia
o Contribute to integration of career and post-secondary education preparation throughout the entire program
o Determine opportunities for students/alumni to further their education, and help students/alumni navigate through the process of applying (completing applications, attaining financial aid, apply for scholarships, etc.) to college, and training and educational programs
o Support students/alumni to attain skills and competencies needed to access and succeed in college and careers
o Actively coach students/alumni on career-search strategies, personal marketing, interview skills, self-promotion methods and materials
o Develop, track, report and document student/alumni placement statistics, success stories and employment progress
o Conduct career development classes
o Maintain education and career resource materials
o Prepare reports, presentations and correspondence as required
o Interact with employers, colleges and other partners, as necessary
o Plan and oversee student/alumni events
o Develop relationships with representatives from businesses and government organizations that result in employment placements for our students and graduates (e.g., internships, externships and full-time employment)
o Establish community partnerships with other service organizations to establish and maintain a relevant referral network
o Attend weekly program, all-staff and department meetings and other meetings, as required by Director of Transition Services
o Attend retreats, workshops, and conferences, as required.

* Transition Services Leadership:
o Hold high expectations for each student
o Exhibit positive rapport with students
o Act as a role mode for students.

* Program Involvement:
o Participate in community service projects in keeping with service ethic of the school
o Participate in the School’s Mentoring Program
o Participate in one or more extra curricular activities.

* Professional Development:
o Maintain knowledge of trends related to transitioning education of out-of-school youth, and local job growth trends
o Continually improve teaching and networking skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
o Continue to develop skills through trainings and professional development offered at the school and outside.

* Other duties as assigned by the Director of Transition Services.

Qualifications
YouthBuild Philadelphia requires the following qualifications for this position:
– Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
– At least one year of experience in career services, youth workforce development and/or postsecondary education preparation
– Experience working in a team setting
– Ability to work enthusiastically with young people
– Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, organizational and multi-task skills
– Strong communication skills-written and oral
– Strong organizational skills
– Detail-oriented project completion skills.
