Posted by on December 10, 2019

A celebration of P. Roy Vagelos’ vision and leadership in STEM education, Saturday, December 14, 2019, 12 PM (seating is limited), Temple University, Science Education and Research Center, 1925 N. 12th Street, Philadelphia PA 19122.

Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future endorsed sweeping policy changes to enhance scientific and technological innovation in the United States, including annually recruiting 10,000 new science teachers and strengthening the skills of 250,000 current teachers. Twelve years on, has the U.S. met those worthy goals? What is the state of science education in the country today, both for K-12 students and the teachers who instruct them? And what steps must we take now to ensure young people, teachers and the nation are ready for a global economy dependent on innovation and discovery? Physician, researcher, former Merck CEO and current board chairman of Regeneron Roy Vagelos helped craft the report’s recommendations, and will offer his insight to the discussion.
