“The Media and Women’s Health: Sorting Fact from Fiction”

We invite you to attend our next Drexel/Health Partners Grand Rounds featuring Judy Norsigian on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 4:30 PM, in the Geary B Auditorium (245 N. 15th St, 1st fl). Norsigian, the executive director of Our Bodies Ourselves and contributor to the 1998 women’s health guidebook, “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” will give a presentation about the media’s impact on women’s health. This is a great opportunity to hear and meet one of the nation’s most prominent figures in women’s health.

This is a CME approved program. Additional information can be found below and on the attached flyer. The lecture can also be seen via live videoconference from the Queen Lane Campus’ Microbiology/Immunology Conference Room (G46).

Norsigian is a founding member of the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, and a contributor to the 1998 update of “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” which is considered by many to be the most important consumer health reference for women.

Norsigian’s presentation is entitled “The Media and Women’s Health: Sorting Fact from Fiction.” The lecture will focus on how the media reports on women’s health, and how that coverage influences public discourse the health and well-being of all women. Using examples such as cosmetic surgery, tobacco use, and pregnancy, Norsigian will explore how misleading information can be damaging to women and how women of all ages can counter those influences in everyday life. The session will feature a question and answer session with the audience.

The lecture is part of the Drexel-Health Partners Grand Rounds Lecture Series, in collaboration with the Drexel University College of Medicine’s Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership. Additional sponsors of the presentation include the Maternity Care Coalition, Family Planning Council and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.

The Boston Women’s Health Book Collective is a nonprofit organization committed to education about women and health. Started by a group of 12 women in a church basement who were astonished by the lack of clear information about women’s health, the group first published the groundbreaking classic “Our Bodies, Ourselves” in 1970. The resource was completely updated in 1998 to reflect the realities of our changing times. It has sold more than 4 million copies, translated into 17 languages and remains a breakthrough medical reference and wellness guide for women of all ages.

Please share this announcement and flyer with others who may be interested in attending. Thank you in advance for your support!
