Does Volunteerism Undermine Efforts to Expand Coverage?
A Cover the Uninsured Week Exclusive
May 11, 2004 2 pm Eastern Time- Registration Now Open

Over the past few years a growing number of legislative efforts have focused on supporting and expanding volunteerism as a strategy for improving access to health care for the uninsured. Foundation and corporate philanthropy have also viewed volunteerism as mechanism of addressing health care access problems in our country. The growing interest in volunteerism has, however, begged the question, by supporting volunteerism are we undermining other more sustainable or broader systems of health care? Join us for an engaging conversation as we explore the real and theoretical questions of clinician volunteerism. Panelists will include:

* Peter D. Jacobson, JD, MPH, University of Michigan School of Public Health and author of Survival Strategies for Michigan’s Health Care Safety Net Providers
* Sonja Olson, Director, Vermont Coalition of Clinics for the Uninsured, a free clinic association in Vermont
* Stuart Schear, Senior Communications Officer, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
* H Denman Scott, MD, MPH, Program Director, Volunteers in Health Care

In honor of Cover the Uninsured Week registration for this workshop is free but space is limited. To register, please fill out the registration form at http://www.volunteersinhealthcare.org, and fax it in. If you have any questions, please contact VIH toll-free at 877-844-8442.
