Teaching with Primary Sources – UArts Workshop for K-12 Educators
Featuring Keynote Speaker Kim Sajet from the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC

We are pleased to invite K-12 teachers to attend our free spring one-day workshop! This event is designed to engage teachers in all subjects in the benefits of primary sources from the Library of Congress to inspire you and your students. Featuring a keynote talk by Kim Sajet, director of the the National Protrait Gallery, this workshop brings a unique perspective into how cultural artifacts can illuminate teaching across the curriculum.

This workshop includes guided activity sessions working hands-on with the Library of Congress digital collections and teacher tools, providing easy implementation of inquiry-based learning into your classroom. Activities are designed to help your students to observe, reflect and question sources in many subject areas and make thoughtful connections. Learn how to differentiate between primary and secondary sources, navigate and access primary source items from the Library of Congress, and discover the different formats primary sources have — all to help students explore the ways people have documented their stories throughout history. In addition, we have special activity sessions during the workshop for teachers to explore specific artifacts such as photographs, sound, prints and imagery to enhance student learning in a range of subject areas and grade levels.
