Organizations, institutions, and community leaders often focus their efforts on college affordability to expand educational access. But for today’s student, financial barriers don’t just end with textbook costs and tuition fees. According to a 2019 state survey conducted by the Hope Center, 45% of college students had experienced food insecurity in the past 30 days and 56% had experienced housing insecurity in the past year. Clearly, even with the various scholarships and aid programs available to students, there is a great, unspoken need for wraparound services to help students persist to graduation.

For this webinar, Grace Moseley, FCAN’s Policy Analyst, will be joined by Erin DeLuc, Director of The Center for Women and Men at Daytona State College, and John Aloszka, University of North Florida’s Student Body President. Erin will share how Daytona State College used The Hope Center’s survey to assess food and housing insecurity on campus and implement data-informed student supports. Lastly, John will share best practices that UNF has put into place to tackle these issues and how communities can engage students in the process.

In this webinar, you will learn about:

  • The Hope Center’s most recent nationwide report documenting the hunger and housing crisis students currently face
  • Implementing a campus-wide survey to assess students’ basic needs
  • Best practices from around the state on how to support students facing food and/or housing insecurity
  • Ways to engage a cross-sector network of partners to support students
