Student-led Summit on Homelessness and Poverty, March 1-3

Posted by Community Empowerment Fund on February 5, 2019

Last year, students at Brown University held the first inaugural Summit on Homelessness and Poverty. In doing so, they brought together a coalition of student organizations from across the country dedicated to dismantling systems that perpetuate hunger, homelessness, and poverty. This year, Duke and UNC will be hosting the Summit. We are in the process of planning and want to make sure we’re reaching out to great organizations who would want to participate in this kind of opportunity.

We are reaching out on behalf of the Community Empowerment Fund, which is a student organization that uses relationship-based support to assist community members to work towards their housing, employment, and financial goals. We are based in Chapel Hill and Durham and affiliated with UNC and Duke. Please share this information with any student organizations who organize against homelessness and poverty or are otherwise engaged in meaningful local service and encourage them to contact Joyce Yao at joyceyao@live.unc.edu or (919) 360-1243 so we can reach out to encourage students to attend our Summit on Homelessness and Poverty that will take place March 1-3, 2019.

You can register here. We can also provide transportation/accommodation scholarships for students who might have economic barriers to attending the conference – we want this to be as open as possible.

Feel free to read more about us on our website and to let Joyce know if you have any questions! We would be happy to explain more over the phone or via email.
