JOB OPPORTUNITY ? STAFF WRITER

The Philadelphia Public School Notebook is hiring a staff writer for our quarterly newspaper.

The Notebook is an information source and a voice for parents, students, teachers, and others at the grassroots level who are working to improve Philadelphia public schools. Our mission is to promote informed public involvement in the Philadelphia public schools and contribute to the development of a strong movement for educational quality and equity.

The staff writer will be responsible for writing in-depth investigative articles for the newspaper about a range of topics relating to public education in Philadelphia, as well as briefer news articles. Philadelphia is on the cutting edge of the debate over privatizing public education and a focus will be coverage of the major initiatives underway in Philadelphia, emphasizing the perspectives of students and families affected. The writer is also responsible for producing stories for and editing a monthly email bulletin, also to be posted on the Notebook website.

Key qualifications: Knowledge of and passion about urban education issues. Demonstrated commitment to quality and equality in education and to social justice. Experience as a journalist and strong reporting skills. Spanish speaking ability a plus.

Compensation: Mid $30s, with a cafeteria benefits package including health care, generous paid leave time.
