Service Mentors needed, Champions of Caring

Posted by on August 12, 2005

Effect Change.

Become a mentor or share your skills and expertise with high school students in the Philadelphia region. Champions of Caring, a non-profit organization, provides school and community-based programs designed to encourage service, reduce violence and prejudice, and promote positive community change and social justice. Over the past ten years 5,000 students have participated in our programs.

Change a Life.

Mentors will help guide a student through the planning and implementation of a community service project. You can become a mentor by committing to six meetings (in the afternoon on Sundays at Drexel University), engaging in weekly contact by phone or email with your student, and participating in field trips. This amounts to a commitment of approximately 40 hours over the school year.

Share Your Skills.

We are also looking for volunteers to visit our classrooms and workshops. Please come and share your expertise in: service-learning, public speaking, fundraising, speech and resume writing, interviewing, networking or other skills essential to the development of successful and productive citizens. We currently have Champions of Caring classrooms at University City, Overbrook, Kensington, Simon Gratz, and Northeast High Schools and high schools in Lancaster County.
