Posted by Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory on December 15, 2014

The Science Education Director is a managing director and the lead direct service provider for the organization’s Riverguides out-of-school time program. The Science Education Director reports directly to the Executive Director and assures that the Riverguides program accurately reflects the mission and objectives of the organization. The position is full time.

Duties Include:

  • Work with 24 high-school aged Riverguides to develop environmental education and outreach for families, school groups and community-based organizations within the region. • Assure materials and supplies are on hand as needed.
  • Provide 18 hours of direct service each week between the hours of 3 and 6:30pm, during the school year, and for 20 hours each week, for six weeks each summer.
  • Cultivate new, and manage existing partnerships with schools, community based organizations and stakeholders within the region.
  • Recruit program participants.
  • Develop and document program curriculum.
  • Lead field trips, including occasional weekend or overnight excursions.
  • Assist the Program Director in development and implementation of evaluation tools.

Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory (PWBF) provides resiliency-based out-of-school time programming for high school teenagers from Philadelphia’s Frankford section and its surrounding neighborhoods. Within PWBF students find an environment where they feel safe to take healthy risks, and learn to manage their stress while being creative, supported, and accepted. Students develop lasting relationships with PWBF mentors – connections that are consistent, reliable, stable and bounded. In doing so students develop a tool-kit of 21st century skills, and the resilience needed to make the transition into post-secondary education or employment.
