School District of Philadelphia
School District of Philadelphia’s Kindergarten Registration process
The School District of Philadelphia’s Kindergarten Registration process for the 2018-2019 school year is January 16, 2018 through May 31, 2018!
The District’s goal is to ensure that all incoming SY 2018-19 kindergarten families have attended at least one Kindergarten Open House and their students are fully registered for school by the end of May 2018. This will allow families to connect with their school and help the District to plan and successfully achieve a smooth school opening. Toward that end, we are looking to our valued partners to help us inform families, community members, and partners about the importance of school readiness and kindergarten registration.
Enrollment data over the last few years has shown that less than 50 percent of incoming kindergarten students are registered before the first day of school. After extensive surveys and focus groups with families about the District’s kindergarten registration process, the District learned that most families were not aware that they should be registering their children for kindergarten several months prior to their first day of school. As a result, the District will be enhancing its efforts to communicate the registration timeframe to families in various ways, and you are an important part of this process.
The District will be hosting Kindergarten Open House events on March 6, 2018 and during the week of May 7, 2018 to May 11, 2018. These will be opportunities for families to learn more about the kindergarten experience at their neighborhood school.
