Rethink Your Drink: The Impact of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages on the Obesity Epidemic

Rethink Your Drink: The Impact of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages on the Obesity Epidemic & Clinical and Environmental Strategies to Reduce Consumption

This symposium will explore both clinical approaches and changes in policies and environments designed to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage consumption.  Featured speakers include:

• Gary D. Foster, PhD, Director, Center for Obesity Research and Education and Professor, Medicine and Public Health, at Temple University
• Goutham Rao, M.D., Vice Chair of the Dept. of Family Medicine at the University of Chicago and Associate Director of the Center for Clinical Research Informatics of the NorthShore University Health System; also Vice Chair of the AHA’s Obesity Committee
• Christina Shay, PhD, a cardiovascular epidemiologist and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center; also current President of the Board of Directors for the AHA in Oklahoma City

Additionally, a panel of speakers directly involved in Boston’s nationally-recognized hospital collaborative model, The Learning Network, will share their perspectives.  This panel includes:

• James Corbett, MDiv, JD, System Vice President of Mission, Steward Health Care System, LLC
• Stacia Clinton, RD, LDN, Healthy Food in Health Care Associate, Health Care Without Harm
