Corbett announces Medicaid expansion

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett has released a draft application for Healthy Pennsylvania Private Coverage Option and Medicaid Reforms.

An overview of the plan was released in September as part of Governor Corbett’s Healthy Pennsylvania comprehensive plan. The proposed Healthy Pennsylvania plan focuses on three key priorities: improving access, ensuring quality and providing affordability.

The Governor says that the plan will increase health care access for more than 500,000 Pennsylvanians; promote healthy behaviors, improve health outcomes and increase personal responsibility; ensure that benefits match health care needs; and implement a strategy for sustainability by aligning the current Medicaid program with private coverage.

It also adds certain work requirements for able-bodied recipients.

Over the next 30 days, the state will be taking public comments on the plan and holding six public hearings around the Commonwealth and two webinars. Based on the comments received during the public comment period, a final application will be developed and submitted to the Federal government.

The Philadelphia public hearing will take place on Friday, January 3rd from 10am to 1pm at the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street in Philadelphia.
