Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Invites Grant Proposals for Public Health Services and Systems Research
Deadline: December 18, 2012 (Brief Proposals)

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has announced a Call for Proposals for Public Health Services and Systems Research.

Studies funded through the call will focus on research projects that examine the organization, finance, and delivery of public health services and the subsequent impact on health outcomes. Approximately $3.2 million will be awarded in two funding categories:

1)    Short-term studies — Grants will provide up to $200,000 for a maximum of twenty-four months. This category includes qualitative or quantitative studies that use research to explain how elements of the public health system influence the effective implementation of evidence-based public health strategies and/or implementation of public health-primary care integration strategies.

2)    Complex and comprehensive studies — A limited number of grants will provide up to $450,000 for a maximum of thirty-six months. This category includes multistate time-series analyses and other in-depth studies focusing on comparative effectiveness studies that test the impact of alternative strategies for delivering evidence-based public health services and/or public health-primary care integration. Proposals exceeding either twenty-four months or $300,000 should specify the data collection or analysis steps that justify a longer grant period and larger budget.

Applicants may be either public entities or nonprofit/academic institutions that are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; private foundations and non-functionally integrated Type III supporting organizations are ineligible. The foundation will give preference to proposals submitted by multidisciplinary teams that include state, local, and/or tribal public health agencies; nonprofit organizations; and/or academic institutions. Applicant organizations must be based in the United States or its territories, and proposed projects must focus on the U.S. public health system and its services.
