Project Ignition Service-Learning Competition to Help Promote Teen Driver Safety
Deadline: April 15, 2007

Sponsored by State Farm (<a href="http://www.statefarm.com/">http://www.statefarm.com/</a>) and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council (<a href="http://www.nylc.org/">http://www.nylc.org/</a>), Project Ignition gives students in grades 9 through 12 and their teachers the chance to work together on service-learning projects to address the issue of teen-driver safety.

The competition is designed to help teens spread their own words of driver safety and, in the process, win grant money for their schools. Participants create and produce innovative public-awareness service-learning projects based on Teen Driver Safety. Students must create the project with the support of a teacher/advisor and the school/organization.

Any interested student can submit an online application to get started. In May, twenty-five recipients will be selected to move into the next phase of the project with a $2,000 grant check from State Farm to help put their plan into action. Student teams will then launch their campaign and gather their results for final judging in December. In January, up to ten finalists are notified and will receive a stipend of up to $5,000 from State Farm for travel to NYLC’s Annual National Service-Learning Conference in March. There, the projects will be highlighted in front of an international audience and a panel of judges will select the "Best of the Best" award, with the winning school receiving a grant of $10,000.

Young people in grades 9 through 12 who are U.S. citizens or resident aliens and enrolled currently in a public/private/charter or alternative school are eligible. This project is offered only in the fifty United States and the District of Columbia.
