The Food Trust, founded in 1992, is a non-profit organization working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food. The Trust works to educate the public about good nutrition and to increase the availability of fresh food in neighborhoods throughout the region and the state. The Trust works with school districts, supermarket operators, corner store owners, public and private partners, and farmers to make fresh food and nutrition education available to everyone. The Food Trust has an immediate opening for a full-time Project Associate, School Nutrition Program (School District of Philadelphia).

The Philadelphia Project Associate will implement the Eat.Right.Now. TRACKS nutrition education programming in schools, reaching, school age, and adult audiences. This position will effectively communicate nutrition objectives and generate cost share participation through training teachers in nutrition education programming. The Philadelphia Project Associate will generate cost share through programming and serve as a resource to the school team by sharing techniques, strategies, best practices and challenges in order to trouble shoot.

The Philadelphia Project Associate serves as a nutrition educator in 5-6 public schools throughout the School District of Philadelphia providing nutrition education on a variety of pre-approved topics in a variety of ways.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Understanding of The Food Trusts’ mission, goals, and objectives and ability to work independently with a high level of energy and contribute as part of a larger team.
Knowledge and ability to implement adult and child educational learning techniques, strategies, and practices.
Ability to organize tasks and follow-up in an efficient manner with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of the concepts and practices associated with cultural competencies, ability to communicate and foster relationships with a diverse group of individuals.
Ability to travel in and around the Philadelphia region to conduct educational programs in diverse areas.
Demonstrates ability to manage multiple daily, weekly, monthly, and long-term tasks by carefully setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and scheduling time efficiently.
Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office.
Ability to operate and handle cooking related equipment as necessary to implement cooking component of the program
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Possesses strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, external school staff and children and their caregivers.
Adheres to all The Food Trust and departmental policies and procedures and attend all The Food Trust in-services as required.
Six months of related work experience teaching/working with children is preferred.
BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study.
Valid and updated drivers’ license and a reliable vehicle required.
