Job description
For 60 years, Eisenhower Fellowships (EF) has been one of the world’s premier global leadership organizations. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based out of Philadelphia, EF competitively selects mid-career leaders in the public, private, and NGO sectors from around the world to travel on 7-week fellowships throughout the U.S. to enhance their professional, intellectual, and personal growth. EF is seeking to hire a full-time, contract Program Officer (PO) on a project basis. The PO will work closely with five Fellows to conceptualize and arrange individually-tailored, transformational programs focusing on the Fellows’ areas of interest. The contract will be for approximately 4.5 months from mid-July to November 2013, with the possibility of renewal in the Spring. The PO will report to the Senior Director for International Programs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Establish productive working relationship with 5 international Fellows, including:

  • Interact frequently via email and phone with Fellows before and during their fellowships
  • Work with Fellows to define their program goals and focus on anticipated outcomes to improve their organizations and countries
  • Guide Fellows toward broadening opportunities
  • Monitor Fellows’ program reporting
  • Write Fellows’ one-page biographies and program summaries
  • Conduct research and identify potential people and organizations for Fellows to meet
  • Develop creative, “stretch” programs and itineraries encompassing 8-10 cities around the U.S.
  • Coordinate Fellows’ activities with other departments at EF
  • Book international and domestic travel, and oversee lodging and local transit arrangements
  • Calculate and monitor Fellows’ per diem

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to conduct independent research and network with leaders in diverse fields and sectors
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and high volume of time-sensitive communications
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide timely, complete, and accurate logistical information
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated affinity for networking and establishing relationships with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, and familiarity with Sage ACT! or another relational data base
  • Occasional domestic travel required
  • Minimum of 5 years of applicable work experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
