Program Manager – The Porch Light Initiative

The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program unites artists and communities through a collaborative process, rooted in the traditions of mural-making, to create art that transforms public spaces and individual lives. Since its inception in 1984, Mural Arts has created more than 3,000 community driven murals and provided thousands of under-served youth and adults with award-winning arts education programming.

The Mural Arts Program (MAP) is seeking a Program Manager to manage The Porch Light Initiative, a recently launched, three-year program to improve the health of individuals and communities in three North Philadelphia neighborhoods. As part of a community-wide effort, Mural Arts is building teams of local behavioral health service providers, muralists, teaching artists, and hundreds of residents to address the problems of drug addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and traumas. Together in the mural-making process, providers and participants will transform their environment in ways that will have profound meaning and practical utility, encouraging a sense of community ownership and pride, while promoting natural community supports.

The Program Manager will oversee the implementation of the initiative in three target communities.  This position will work with staff at MAP and three partner hub sites to ensure the goals of the projects are met.  This work will include the development and facilitation of a public – private partnership, and oversight of the community engagement process. The Program Manager, working in collaboration with appropriate staff at MAP will oversee the implementation of curriculum at each partner site and the creation and installation of the public art projects. A key part of the Program Manager’s job will be building and sustaining strong relationships with the program’s many stakeholders. Another aspect of the Program Manager’s responsibilities includes working with marketing staff to develop and implement a marketing strategy. The Program Manager will manage the $1.5 million program budget and will work closely with evaluators to measure the program’s progress and ability to produce identified outcomes.

This job is a three-year, grant funded position. Candidates need excellent communication and intrapersonal skills. Knowledge of program design, evaluation, budgeting and fiscal management procedures a must. Ideal candidates will have a BA in behavioral health or related field and at least 5 years of experience working with community in a social service or related nonprofit or government agency. MA in social work, nonprofit management or public administration preferred.
