Job Description

White-Williams Scholars is a not-for-profit organization that administers two programs:
(1) White-Williams Scholars? mission is to support high academic achievement in Philadelphia public high school students of limited financial resources in order to increase their opportunities for success; and
(2) Charles E. Ellis Grant and Scholarship program aims to assist functionally orphaned girls to continue, enrich and complete their secondary school education.

Hours: Negotiable: 10 or 12 month
Reports to: Senior Program Coordinator

WWS: 75% time Ellis: 25% time

The Program Coordinator will serve as the ?face? of White-Williams Scholars as it refines and standardizes the Peer Academic Development (PAD) program into a total of 12 high schools. This position will be the third program coordinator on staff and will be responsible for PAD programming in several Community high schools. The program coordinator will facilitate a minimum of bimonthly meetings with a pre-college focus to discuss academic issues, learn and refine writing skills, stay on college-track, and offer support and encouragement to each other. The program coordinator will also hold office hours at each school on a regular basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Programs
? Recruit students in Philadelphia public high schools and through other non-profits to maintain minimum cohort
? Develop, implement and coordinate school-based programs using standardized curriculum
? Schedule and run college tours, cultural events, career exploration opportunities, etc.for students
? Schedule, plan and attend visits at schools for Board, staff, potential funding sources
? Schedule and organize counselor gatherings as needed
? Devise ways to make information about opportunities for students available and useful to counselors, school staff and students

Public Relations
? Maintain a list of students who would be appropriate and available to talk to media

Other related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
? Bachelor?s Degree minimum
? Ability to work well in a team
? Detail oriented
? Excellent organizational skills- ability to multi-task
? Good computer skills
? Excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking
? Ability to coach emergent writers. (A writing sample will be required.)
? Ability to work well with diverse constituencies including students, program staff, school staff, parents, alumni, community groups
? Experience with Philadelphia High School teaching and/or pre-college counseling required (This is not an entry level position.)
