1. “Brave Testimony in the Classroom” focuses on using creative writing, particularly the poetry of noted author Elizabeth Alexander, to discuss civil rights and social issues in the classroom. With facilitator Herman Beavers, University of Pennsylvania. Ideal for middle- and high-school teachers. Act 48 credits available. 4:30-6 PM, with reading and reception for Elizabeth Alexander following at 6 PM! Dining Room, Kelly Writers House, 2805 Locust Walk. 2. “This is NOT a Test! Making Science Assessment Meaningful for Teachers and Students” focuses on using the arts in creating creative science activities and assessing student work. With facilitators Bonnie Hallam, Penn Merck Collaborative, and Carolyn Chernoff, CAP Director. Ideal for K-8 science teachers and others interested in the role of arts in assessment.
