Positive Minds’ Care About Us youth video

Posted by on September 05, 2011

Here is the link to the music video our Positive Minds students created this summer…Care About Us…please take time to personally share it with some of the people in your life that you think would value the hard work and message.  We would really like to see this get into the hands of some policy makers and use it as a tool for facilitating workshops between policy makers, educators, and youth of varying ages–we believe these types of workshops would support each group with authentic dialogue and genuine respect.

Pay close attention to the various groups of young people in South Philadelphia that chose to participate in this.  One night one mom came outside and I thought she was coming to tell us that we were making too much noise.  Instead she said, “Thank you so much.  My children had such a great time and want to know if they can come back out after dinner to finish up.”  It felt good to know that not only were the young people enjoying themselves, but the parents valued what it was that we were up to.

We had so many amazing moments over the course of the six weeks.  This video is really just a small part of the work that we did as a group.  We documented what happened at each session on our blog (http://iampositiveminds.blogspot.com)  if you want to read more about the Positive Minds lessons in compassionate communication.

Positive Minds @ Mighty Writers Teen Lounge in South Philly. Over the course of 6 weeks our intergenerational group of teenagers, college students, and elders aka Visionaries learned how to use media as a tool for compassionate communication. Together our students rewrote Micheal Jackson’s song Care About Us and created a music video to represent their journey in self-expression.
