COMPENSATION: commensurate with experience

ABOUT THE BICYCLE COALITION OF GREATER PHILADELPHIA
Our staff come from many walks of life, but everyone here shares the same passion: making bicycling a safe and fun way to get around for anyone in Greater Philadelphia. We work hard to improve bicycling for all people, but we do not lose sight of the fact that bicycling is fun. We have been around since 1972, but we are ambitious and are in the middle of our goal of doubling the size of our staff over three years. We partner with community, governmental, public and private actors in order to effect change that makes our streets safer for everyone.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Policy Coordinator will:
 Coordinate the Biking in Philly campaign and Better Mobility Philadelphia 2015, with a particular emphasis on communicating our goals to members of City Council
 Work to implement the Biking in Philly campaign
o Design and implement public outreach strategies to develop and build public support
o Work with city agencies to promote implementation
o Present at public meetings, city agencies and to the press
 Attend meetings, as needed, for other Bicycle Coalition business
 Work on other policy campaigns, such as the Circuit, as needed
 Make presentations at occasional BCGP Board Meetings, Volunteer Night & public forums
 Manage social media postings and responses on policy related topics

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Policy Coordinator reports to the Deputy Director. The Policy Coordinator will:
 Work primarily out of the Bicycle Coalition office
 Occasionally work outdoors and on evenings and weekends
 Travel to suburban evening meetings as well as several national conferences
 Travel primarily by bike to local meetings
 Practice safe bicycling

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
 A strong commitment to the Bicycle Coalition’s mission
 Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, abilities, cultural groups, economic status or sexual orientation
 Ability to organize outreach and communication with elected officials, volunteers and city staff
 Comfortable presenting information to and engaging large groups with humor and enthusiasm
 Comfortable presenting information to municipal and elected officials, in person or at public hearings
 Ability to deliver succinct and compelling advocacy messages in media interviews
 A professional appearance and manner
 Prepare detailed written memos and reports
 Ability to write and speak in a professional, friendly and accurate manner
 Ability to complete work in an unstructured and informal environment with limited supervision
 Problem solving skills, creativity, flexibility and self-motivation

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
 College graduate with no less than two years of previous advocacy experience
 Experience bicycling in Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey
 Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Google Applications, Adobe applications
 Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish
 Experience riding a bicycle for transportation
