Part-Time Teachers

Northeast Academy of Philadelphia is seeking part-time “You Be The Chemist Challenge”, “Biology Challenge”, “National History Bee&Bowl”, and “National GeoBee” , as well as Math and English writing coaches to teach students from grades 1-8 through online classes during summer time (June 15th – August 21st). Coaches will develop curriculum in each area based on provided materials. Course training is provided but instructors are encouraged to share their knowledge and experience. The right candidate will have the ability to create rapport with a young audience to develop their curiosity of knowledge, motivate their critical thinking ability and develop problem-solving skills. We are looking for an energetic individual with an engaging personality who believes in our philosophy of learning and innovating in a fun environment.

Classes are held online through Zoom from 9:00 am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday and 10:00 am–4:00 pm. on Saturday and Sunday. Hours are flexible and based on scheduled classes and instructor availability. Each class is typically led by a lead coach and a teaching assistant with 20-25 students. Math and English writing classes will be less than 10 students in general.

  • Passion for working with young people and guiding them in exploration
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Confident, energetic, and assertive enough to control a class of high-energy young kids
  • Solid background in specified subjects
  • Teaching experience is highly desired but not required

About the Competitions

You Be The Chemist Challenge® is a collaborative, multilevel academic competition that celebrates the science of chemistry and elevates STEM careers.

Biology Challenge stimulates students’ curiosity for the natural world and encourages them to take an interest in biology outside of school. – equivalent year groups worldwide. The competition consists of two, twenty-five-minute multiple choice papers to be taken online under staff supervised exam conditions.

The National History Bee and Bowl (NHBB) are nationwide history quiz competitions for high school, middle school, and elementary students in the United States. Both the National History Bee and the National History Bowl were contested for the first time in the 2010-2011 academic year. Students first compete at regional qualifying tournaments, from which the top students advance to the National Championships for the History Bee and History Bowl, which are held each spring.

The National Geographic GeoBee is an annual geography contest sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The bee, held annually since 1989, is open to students in the fourth through eighth grades in participating schools from the United States.
