SUMMARY:
White-Williams Scholars is seeking a part-time College & Career Advisor who will advance the program goals of individual college and career planning/awareness, academic success in the transition to college and the development of personal awareness/accountability. The part-time College and Career Advisor will work 15 hours per week in the effort to offer support for Scholars transitioning into their first year of college, create on-going dialogue between recent WWS alumni and WWS as well as begin the process of creating a post-secondary Scholar community. This work can happen via e-mail outreach, meeting one-on-one or in small groups with recent alumni and through partnerships with higher education stakeholders.

White-Williams Scholars has been serving Philadelphia youth for over 200 years. We provide academic, social and financial support to high achieving Philadelphia public high school students of limited financial means to build a foundation for success in college.

SCHEDULE: 15 hr/wk including some evenings

SUPERVISOR: Program Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Student Advising
• Provide direct transitional support for recent WWS alumni in a one-on-one or small group setting on-site at the WWS office or at a location on-campus at the college/university if possible.
• Serve as a support/liaison for students as well as the identified Penn State and Temple University representatives once students have been chosen as Lenfest Scholarship recipients.
• Maintain documentation of efforts and outreach with assigned students.

Other Activities/Duties
• Coordinate, plan and execute pre-college workshops and experiences with the intent to engage recent Alumni and graduating WWS.
• Work in conjunction with Development to outreach and garner participation of WWS young Alumni at targeted events.
• Participate in organizational and regional professional development in an effort to offer recommendations for the on-going development and quality improvement of White-Williams Scholars programming.
Additional Qualifications:
Minimum Experience: 5+ years of experience in working with high school students;
Knowledge of adjustment issues and transitional concerns of students entering college; Experience with student advising and the college admission process; Experience working with high school-aged students and families in an urban setting.

Minimum Education: BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Counseling, Education or related field of study. Master’s Degree in Counseling is preferred.

Position involves some travel.
