RESEARCH POSITION

Centro Nueva Creaci?n is seeking a part-time graduate school intern to conduct a research study of the effectiveness of our job skill development programs for urban youth.

Project Description:

The Pre-Work Leadership Program of Centro Nueva Creacion is a school-to-work training program that provides youth ages 11-14 with real-life skills and experience. Started in 1995, the program equips youth with the job readiness and leadership skills necessary to create change in their community. Activities include work in career teams such as Journalism and Environmental Science, life-skills classes, community service and career day visits.

Job Description:
The intern will be responsible for creating a system, including measurement instruments and database, that will track job skill development in Pre-Work participants long term. The design and implementation of this evaluation system will enable the center to better evaluate the impact of our program on influencing success in school and the workplace.

Specific responsibilities include:
– Developing an evaluation instrument to measure acquisition of job skills.
– Implementing a tracking process of program graduates.
– Interviewing Pre-Work graduates to collect data on the long-term effect of skills learned in the program.
– Recommend program adaptations for the Pre-Work Program based on findings.

Qualifications:
– B.A. in education, social work, urban studies or other related field
– An interest in non-profit work and urban youth development.
– Knowledge of statistics, evaluation processes and database management

Period of employment: Initial 4-6 month internship, with possibility for renewal. This is a 15-20 hr/week position, with flexible hours.
