Philadelphia Safe And Sound Offers On-Line After School Services Directory

After Labor Day weekend, the summer officially ends for Philadelphia students. And as every student between pre-kindergarten and high school knows, that means it is time to go back to school. But where can kids go when the bell rings at the end of the school day? The Philadelphia Safe and Sound (PSS) Program Finder can help parents and care givers find the answer.

The On-Line Program Finder is a comprehensive directory of over 700 child care, after school and youth development programs located throughout the City of Philadelphia. With the Program Finder, parents and guardians can find a program near their child?s school, home or place of employment. There is also information about the special features of the program and an interactive map to locate the site.

The Program Finder is available for use by accessing Philadelphia Safe and Sound?s Website (http://www.philasafesound.org). There are on-screen instructions to help you through the search process.

If you do not have access to the Internet, or if you have specific questions, call the PSS Parent Assistance Line at 215-568-7037 and a staff member will assist you.

After school programs provide opportunities for social skills enhancement, academic learning, sports, music and arts enrichment. ?The after school hours are critical times for children, said Jo Ann Lawer, president and CEO of Philadelphia Safe and Sound. ?An After School program provides a safe alternative to being home alone or out on the street where children are at risk for experimenting with undesirable behaviors.?

Philadelphia Safe and Sound is a leading nonprofit organization that works with partners inside and outside of government to improve systems and its goal is to improve kids? health and safety throughout the City of Philadelphia.
