Northeast Regional Public Health Leadership Institute Award

The Northeast Regional Public Health Leadership Institute (NEPHLI) presents the Excellence in Leadership Award to an individual, program or organization for outstanding contributions in public health leadership. Eligible candidates must reside or work in the NEPHLI partner states including: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Nominated individuals, programs or organizations shall demonstrate the five fundamental practices of exemplary leadership as expressed by Kouzes & Posner in "The Leadership Challenge." They include:

Challenge the Process
Seek out challenging opportunities to change, grow, innovate and improve Experiment, take risks and learn from barriers/challenges

Inspire a Shared Vision
Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to their values, interests, hopes and dreams

Enable Others to Act
Foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust
Strengthen people by giving power away, provide choice, develop constituents, assign critical tasks, and offer support

Model the Way
Sets the example, behaves in ways that are consistent shared values
Achieves small wins that promote consistent progress and build commitment

Encourage the Heart
Recognize individual contributions to the success of every project
Celebrate team accomplishments regularly

Nominees may not include NEPHLI staff, members of the award committee or scholars from the current NEPHLI Class. All nominations for the award should be submitted on the prescribed form which can be found on the NEPHLI Web site. The deadline for nominations is Monday, May 21. Nominations received after that date cannot be guaranteed consideration for the 2007 award.

The recipient will be recognized at the Rensselaerville Institute in Rensselaerville, New York on Tuesday, July 17 during the graduation of the class of 2007 and welcoming program for the class of 2008.
