New website for Sexuality Education

Posted by on July 20, 2009

SIECUS is very pleased to announce the launch of our new website http://www.seriouslysexuality.com.  The website is based on SIECUS’ popular “mini-book,” Talk About Sex, which addresses issues young people deal with everyday surrounding their sexuality including, anatomy, pregnancy prevention, STD and HIV/AIDS prevention, love, relationships, communication, sexual abuse, and sexual orientation, among other important topics.

In addition to providing all of this valuable information, http://www.seriouslysexuality.com features a number of interactive features designed to provide an enhanced learning experience, including:

·         Polls—that ask young people how they feel about issues related to sexuality and HIV/AIDS prevention, what they’ve learned in school and from friends, and what issues they want to learn more about.

·         Quizzes—that test young people’s knowledge when it comes to sexuality. Users can take a quiz testing their general knowledge about sexuality both before and after they go through the site (as well as after each section) to see how much they’ve learned.

·         X-Ray Machine—that allows young people to scroll over different parts of the male and female anatomy and see images, names, and functions for various body parts.

·         “Choose Your Own Adventure”—that has users put themselves in the position of a young person making plans with a partner for a Saturday night.  This feature helps the user understand why some decisions and communication styles may work better than others.

As individuals and organizations that work with young people and educators, we are asking for your help spreading the word about this new resource and driving traffic to this site. There are many ways in which you could do this, as first steps we are asking if you would:

* Post a link to http://www.seriouslysexuality.com on your website and send it out to any email lists you may sponsor.  (if you are interested, please email me for a .jpg file that you can easily post to your site.)
* Include a notice about http://www.seriouslysexuality.com in your organization’s mailings or newsletters.

We are also eager to connect young people who visit the site to other resources that provide additional information about sexuality.  When you browse the site, you will see that we frequently link to other websites and inform visitors about the resources and services our colleagues offer.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 212/819-9770, ext. 316 or e-mail me at pmalone@siecus.org.
