Community-Investment Fund Proposal.
Tax-free institutions like non-profit colleges and universities are receiving increased attention as potential new sources of revenue for their beleaguered host cities and communities as the recession continues to pummel the nation’s economy. A group of educators from New England proposes that in lieu of paying taxes, educational institutions could create a community-investment fund to support local initiatives.
