National Conference on Housing Mobility

Posted by Metropolitan Planning Council on June 22, 2015

The conference takes place in Chicago on July 16, and is organized by the Poverty & Race Research Action Council, Metropolitan Planning Council, and Center on Budget and Planning Policies.

Groundbreaking pilot programs and recent research studies have begun to point to more cost-effective ways to help low-income families—especially those with young children—live in communities with safe streets, good jobs and high-performing schools. At the same time, the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is expected to issue new guidelines for fair housing. It’s the right time to consider new policies and approaches that will give families the tools they need to choose—and thrive in—communities with opportunities.

Join leading national researchers, policy experts and housing mobility practitioners to learn and share best practices for improved and expanded housing mobility initiatives. Conference sessions will include profiles of new programs and successful mobility practices; new social science research on the impacts of housing mobility and the mechanisms of segregation in the voucher program; and the evolving regulatory landscape in the Housing Choice Voucher, Choice Neighborhoods, Rental Assistance Demonstration and Moving to Work programs. Please see the agenda for more information!
