National Call to Action: Make the Case for Community Schools

Join Us for a Webinar on
Tuesday, May 24th at 3pm (ET)

America’s world leadership is rooted in its political freedoms and in the high-caliber industry and innovation of its workforce. To advance and even maintain that standing in today’s global economy, we must find better ways to use all our resources to educate young people and engage their families and the community.  To this end, the Coalition invites you to this National Call to Action!

NOW is the time to make the case for community schools and educate our U.S. Senators and House Representatives! As you know, the Coalition is hosting a National Community Schools Advocacy Day- June 15-16, 2011. This webinar is the beginning of your preparation for this event! Even if you are unable to make the trip to Washington, DC in June, you can still participate by making phone calls, sending emails, and organizing site visits!

Gain insight into the policy landscape as Congress aims to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965,  and hear more about how community schools fit into the picture. During this webinar, we will share with you the various talking points for meetings with policymakers. Learn about the key pieces of legislation that support the community school principles and how community schools can be embedded within ESEA. Finally, you will walk away with strategies to share with policymakers regarding the importance of community schools to your students, families, and communities.

Mark your calendar and be a part of this National Call to Action – whether you are in DC or in your home state- you can still help make a difference!

Join us to learn more about how you can help make a difference in the Community Schools Movement! We will be joined by an expert panel with years of experience in advocating for community school legislation, sharing the stories and data on community schools with their local, state, and federal policymakers.

Presenters:

* Martin J. Blank, President, Institute for Educational Leadership; Director, Coalition for Community Schools

* Melissa Trumbull Mitchell, Associate Director, The Illinois Federation for Community Schools
