United Way offers new VISTA opportunities

Thanks to an arrangement with United Way of Pennsylvania, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania is offering a variety of opportunities for individuals participating in the federal Volunteers in Services to America (VISTA) program.

These are full-time 12 month opportunities beginning in August 2009 at the United Way headquarters, located at 7 Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.  19103.  As AmeriCorps VISTA positions, there is a monthly stipend of $949, an educational grant of $4,725 and health benefits.

The Asset Development Coordinator will work on United Way’s Suburban Asset Development Initiative.  The purpose of this initiative is to build the capacity and expand the services of two coalitions in Delaware and Montgomery counties that run Earned Income Tax Credit campaigns.  These two coalitions are composed of non-profit agencies, universities and financial institutions from their respective county and currently focus on providing free tax preparation to low-income families during tax season.

This VISTA position builds upon UWSEPA’s current relationship with these two coalitions and helps to build their capacity to offer more Volunteer Income Tax Assistance services, expand their marketing and outreach and connect other asset development services to their VITA sites.
