MightyFest 2018 Literacy Festival

It’s MightyFest 2018: Philly’s four-day literacy festival

What is MightyFest?

MightyFest is a weekend filled with literacy activities for kids and adults!

Beginning Thursday, September 27, 2018, every Free Library of Philadelphia neighborhood library will host a Mighty Writers hour.

Then that Friday night, September 28th, we’re heading over to the Fels Planetarium at the Franklin Institute for a night celebrating the (21+) young people in our Mighty community, complete with dancing, beer and cider provided by Philadelphia Brewing Company, and music by Philly’s own DJ Lil’ Dave.

Saturday, September 29th, from 11AM to 4PM, we’ll be right outside the Franklin Institute at Aviator Park! And you better be ready! With more than 30 tents filled with volunteers, Mighty Writers staff, and Philly organizations all running a writing-related activity, we’re hosting the BIGGEST, most fun-filled kids literacy carnival you’ve ever seen (dunk tank included)!

And adults, don’t worry, we’ve got something for you too. After the writing extravaganza, our keynote speaker (and MacArthur Genius Award winner) Nikole Hannah-Jones will be speaking at the Philadelphia Ethical Society ready to educate us about what she knows best: the politics of race and education. Don’t miss the cocktails, Yards beer, and hors d’oeuvre following her speech!

Sunday, September 30th, we conclude MightyFest with a gospel breakfast and pay tribute to the Dixie Hummingbirds at Girard College.

Join us! Together, we will celebrate the wonder of Philly kid storytelling and spread the word about the power of writing.
