City offers internship programs

The City of Philadelphia is accepting applications for two internship programs – the Mayor’s Internship Program and the Destination Fellowship.

The Mayor’s Internship Program (http://www.phila.gov/experiencephila/mayor.html) is an opportunity for current college undergraduates to learn about and contribute to the city government that manages operations for the nation’s 6th largest municipality.   The 9-week project hosts the best and brightest students from around the nation to come to Philadelphia every summer and see all the city has to offer.

During their tenure, Mayor’s interns are assigned substantive projects and tasks providing research, administrative, and staff assistance to city managers in various departments across Philadelphia municipal government.  Interns are also provided the opportunity to learn about careers in government, hear from leaders in city government, and visit city facilities and operations.

The MIP offers real work experience, while exposing participants to the diverse functions and operations of a large municipal government.

The Destination Fellowship (http://www.phila.gov/destinationfellowship/) is a twelve-month municipal government fellowship for recent graduate school and college graduates. Fellows work on a substantive project or a series of projects in their host department and participate in a monthly speaker series and site visits as a group. The Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to begin a career in municipal government.
