The Attic Youth Center, Philadelphia’s only lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth center, has an opening for a Life Skills Specialist.

Description: The Life Skills Specialist works within the Life Skills Center at The Attic, which supports skills-building among LGBTQ youth in five tracks: academic enrichment, job readiness, health & wellness, arts & culture, and youth leadership.

Job Responsibilities:

Work with Life Skills Staff to develop Center programming and facilitate existing programs.

Enforce Attic policies as written to provide a safe space for all youth.
Develop and implement interactive educational programs and curricula.
Plan and implement afterschool groups in one or more of the Life Skills tracks (e.g. creative writing, public speaking, fashion, cooking, and more).

Provide direct Life Coaching support through one-on-one sessions to young LGBTQ people ages 14-23 focused on identifying, articulating, and planning toward achieving short- and long-term educational and career goals.

Provide one-on-one sessions with youth focused on resume development, job searches, scholarship applications, etc.
Record interactions with enrolled youth.
Communicate with staff on individual cases; assist in case planning and make referrals to the Attic and outside providers as appropriate.
Utilize agreed upon policy to refer to youth to counseling, case management, HIV prevention services, or other appropriate services.
Confer with parents/guardians as necessary.

Maintain youth member files, track progress, and report outcomes.

Track youth member enrollment/activities and contractual requirements, and prepare reports and paperwork requested by agency funding sources.
Assist in achieving all measurement outcomes for youth, and provide support in evaluation interventions and programs.

Promote and encourage youth participation in community activities.

Collaborate with Philadelphia community organizations providing relevant services.

Arrange linkages and partnerships with interns, teachers, volunteers, tutors, and mentors and provide their in-service training.

Participate in continuing education opportunities as appropriate
