Leaders In Training Sports Mentoring Program seeking partners

Posted by Leaders In Training Sports and Mentoring Program on November 13, 2018

The Leaders In Training Sports and Mentoring Program will be a program that provides youth with responsible and caring adult mentors. Citing statistics that assert that more than 65% of black children are growing up in father absent households with a similar amount dropping out of high school, coupled with the fact that a high percentage of those high school drop-outs are African American youth, LIT Sports believes that involving African Americans to mentor youth of color is an imperative. The Leaders In Training Sports Mentoring Program is part of a comprehensive outreach project designed to improve social, academic and life skill outcomes for youth residing in undeserved east Germantown (Philadelphia) communities and youth from Mastery Charter Pickett North.

Starting in December 2018, our Program Director and Coordinator, Eugene Pough and Vonkurt Redley will begin working with youth grades 7th -12th, on a weekly basis. The sessions will include: Team, Community and Group mentoring; where the youth will be paired with one to four mentors in groups. Mentors are asked to dedicate 12 hours a month on future trips, outings. Guest speakers and presenters are encouraged to volunteer.

The Leaders In Training Sports Mentoring Program is currently seeking community based organizations to partner with in the hopes of spreading our vision and recruiting mentors. We know that with the help of the community, our program can be a Philadelphia success and we together can reach hundreds of youth and save their futures.

If you or your organization is interested in partnering with the Leaders In Training Sports Mentoring Program or you would like more information regarding the program please contact Program Coordinator Vonkurt Redley at vonkurtredley@gmail.com and 215-834-8789 and Eugene Pough, Program Director at 267-377-3471 or via email at eugene.pough@litsports.org.
