Introductory Institutes make up the primary activity of building a strong base for institutionalizing service-learning and civic engagement on college campuses. These Institutes, with Campus Compact’s Introduction to Service-Learning Toolkit (2003) as their curriculum, offer faculty and staff the “nuts and bolts” of service-learning across disciplines and campus types. Although these Institutes are broad based in the topics they address, many practiced service-learning practitioners have commented on how revitalizing an Institute of this sort can be, regardless of their level of experience.

An intensive, two-day institute to assist campus teams in developing action plans for institutionalizing service-learning on their campuses. Teams will receive instruction and support from nationally recognized leaders in the field, plus key service-learning resources such as Campus Compact’s new, bestselling Introduction to Service-Learning Toolkit. The Austin, Texas, Institute is designed specifically for community colleges and will address the theme of using service-learning to improve minority student success.
