International Center for Service-Learning in Teacher Education Conference

The International Center for Service-Learning in Teacher Education (ICSLTE) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for our June 21-23, 2012 Conference, Conversations that Matter III: Research, Practice, and Policy. Join us for two and a half days of exciting workshops, panels, and roundtables offered by practitioners and scholars from around the world. Learn about their research, teaching and outreach focused on teacher education and service-learning. The conference will be held at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, USA. It is sponsored by the Duke Program in Education and Duke Service-Learning Program.

We are especially pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF). Mrs. Edelman has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional life. Under her leadership, CDF has become the nation’s strongest voice for children and families. The Children’s Defense Fund’s Leave No Child Behind® mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. She has received over a hundred honorary degrees and many awards including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize, the Heinz Award, and a MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship. In 2000, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, and the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award.
