Writing and Educational Program Intern (For Credit) (Fall 2012)

Join Mighty Writers’ team as a Program Intern this fall. Program interns work directly with the Program Director to facilitate writing workshops, support our SAT Prep program and facilitate the Mighty Writers Academy for students in grades 2-8. Fall interns are asked to complete 15-20 hours per week for 12-14 weeks. Flexible hours are available and fall opening hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more about the organization online at http://www.mightywriters.org.

Responsibilities:

Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, volunteers and colleagues, both verbally and in writing

Work with youth aged 5 to 18 individually and in small groups in the following capacities: tutor, mentor, and teaching assistant. Interns showing great promise are invited to develop and conduct their own workshops, in which they serve as a teaching artist.

Proofread and edit student work for publication in anthologies

Support the administration of a federally-sponsored snack program for at-risk youth

Support to the Program Director with administrative tasks, learning new computer applications as necessary

Write weekly reflections, articles, and essays intended to link your internship to your future profession(s) and develop your skills as an educator
