Elevate Prize Foundation Welcomes Nominations, Applications for Inaugural Elevate Prize Competition
The Elevate Prize Foundation has announced the launch of the inaugural Elevate Prize, a prize competition created by business leader, philanthropist and author Joseph Deitch to empower and celebrate people around the world who can spark movements, mobilize people, and catalyze positive, transformational change. That includes solutions that can help communities around the world prepare for, detect, and respond to emerging pandemics and health security threats, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
To that end, the foundation has engaged with MIT Solve, an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and will leverage its award-winning open innovation platform, methodology, and global network of entrepreneurs and social impact leaders. Through the prize competition, the foundation will award up to $5 million annually to a cohort of ten “global Heroes,” as well as other resources for up to two years after a “hero” is selected.
Through the prize competition, the foundation is seeking a radically diverse cohort of “heroes” to present with a minimum prize of $300,000 spread over two years, with potential for additional monetary support; management and development services, mentoring and counseling, educational training, and capacity building; and connections to a global fanbase that can help amplify and scale their work.
While the competition is open to global heroes who are addressing any challenge, the foundation is using the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as a general guide for entrepreneurs.
In addition, MIT Solve, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, has launched a Health Security & Pandemics Challenge of its own to which the Elevate Prize will commit one of its ten prizes to a “Solver” team selected through the challenge.
The deadline to submit a solution is June 29, 2020. Finalists will be selected in August and invited to present their work before an Elevate Prize panel of judges and a live audience in New York City during the United Nations General Assembly in September.
For more information and/or to nominate a hero or submit an application, see the Elevate prize website.
