Deadline Extended to November 24, 2004!!

The Institute for Global Education and Service Learning (IGESL), in partnership with the New Jersey Commission for National and Community Service and Penn SERVE, is extending the deadline for applications for the Learn and Serve Homeland Security Grant until November 24, 2004. This grant opportunity is being offered to eligible schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The details of the YODA (Youth Organized for Disaster Action) Program, who is eligible and how to apply can be accessed by visiting http://www.igesl.org and clicking on the Homeland Security Program button.

The purpose of the LSA Homeland Security Program is to address homeland security and disaster response concerns by engaging students in service-learning activities in their schools and communities. The grant provides resources to school districts to (1) educate teachers and administrators about the benefits of connecting homeland security issues and service-learning; (2) create, develop, and offer service-learning opportunities for K-12 students that enhance academic learning, workplace-readiness skills, character, and citizenship; (3) bring volunteers into schools; (4) encourage young people to pursue further education and training; (5) support service-learning coordinators.
