City Health Dept. offers HIV Prevention, Children’s Health grants

The Philadelphia Dept. of Public Health has issued two Requests for Proposals offering several million dollars in support of services to prevent HIV infection, provide HIV testing, and support children with special health care needs.

The AIDS Activities Coordinating Office is seeking proposals from non-profit agencies for a range of HIV prevention programs and interventions in Philadelphia which target people living with HIV/AIDS, injection drug users, heterosexuals, and men who have sex with men. Youth in each of these categories are a priority. Prevention services to be funded are: Counseling, Testing, and Referral; Health education/risk reduction; Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services for Persons Living with HIV, or for uninfected persons at very high risk for HIV; and health communications/public information. Applicants must attend a bidders conference to be held on May 23, 2007 at 10 am at 1101 Market Street, 11th floor and submit a Letter of Intent no later than May 29, 2007. The application deadline is June 18, 2007 no later than 12:00 Noon.

The Division of Maternal, Child & Family Health Children with Special Health Care Needs Community Activity Grant promotes family-centered, community-based, coordinated care and facilitates the development of community-based systems of care for children with special health care needs and their families. The Grant Program will award funds for projects that: 1) support families in becoming more active in decision making and caregiving for children with special health care needs, and/or 2) develop or strengthen community support groups dealing with any aspect tied to children with special health care needs, and/or 3) address unmet needs of children with special health care needs and/or their families.
