NIMHD Health Disparities Research Institute

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) will host the Summer Institute on Health Disparities Science from August 15, 2016, to August 19, 2016. The program will support the development of individual research projects by promising scientists early in their careers and will stimulate research in the disciplines supported by science on minority health and health disparities.

The program will feature lectures, seminars, and small group discussions on research relevant to minority health and health disparities. It will also include sessions with NIH scientific staff engaged in related health disparities research across the various Institutes and Centers.

Target Audience
Applications from postdoctoral students, assistant professors, early career research investigators, and scientists engaged in minority health and health disparities research will be accepted. Early career researchers from diverse backgrounds—including those interested in research on minority health and health disparities—within academic, community-based, nonprofit, and other non-academic settings, but who may have limited experience, are encouraged to apply.

Participants will be selected based on several criteria:

  • Professional experience and educational achievements
  • A letter of recommendation providing support for the candidate, including evidence of potential success in minority health and health disparities research
  • A brief essay (no more than 250 words) outlining the candidate’s objectives for participation in the program
  • A one-page abstract and specific aims of the candidate’s research interest area

The due date for application submission is June 1, 2016 (5:00 p.m. local time).
